Mobile Technology: Is It Taking Over From Our Desktop?

by Dan

The world is always evolving and technological advancements are constantly being made. These advancements, which include everything from medical-related improvements, to new and updated tech devices, can really enrich a person’s life and make day-to-day business and life in general a lot easier. Mobile technology is one type of technology that many people use on a daily basis. In fact, people are starting to use their mobile devices, specifically smartphones, more often than desktop computers, which might make many people wonder whether mobile technology is taking over from our desktop.

The convenience of smartphones

Using a desktop computer as opposed to a mobile phone has many benefits. Not only do desktops have larger screens, but they also have keyboards that make typing quick and easy. Despite the many benefits that desktops have, increasing amounts of consumers are relying on their mobile devices more often.

Why? First of all, not every job requires a person to sit at a desk and type letters or other material for the entire shift. Many people must travel for their jobs, for various reasons, and carrying around a computer, even a laptop, just isn’t always practical. A smartphone can be easily hidden in a pocket or a bag, providing a convenient manner in which to keep in touch with clients, employees, business partners, and even family.

Another reason why smartphones are more convenient than computers is the fact that computers could sometimes experience problems with internet connectivity. Of course, some tasks must be completed using an internet connection, and even though Wi-Fi connections can be found just about anywhere, there are some places where internet access simply isn’t available. However, with most smartphones, as long as the area isn’t too remote, a 3G connection will likely be available, and with many other smartphones such as the Samsung devices from a reliable carrier like T-Mobile, an even faster connection can be made. This makes it a great deal easier to access the internet and complete necessary assignments regardless of where a person’s travels may take them.

Smartphones can do it all

Before smartphones, there were many things that weren’t possible. However, smartphones have changed the way people can use their mobile devices, by giving them access to unlimited features. Regardless of what a person might need to do, there is a high probability that there are at least a few apps available that can make completing that task possible.

With a smartphone, there is no need to use a computer simply to print documents, as smartphones function exactly like desktops in a number of ways. In fact, with the abundance of features and apps that continue to be introduced on a regular basis, some smartphones might even contain more features than your average computer does. This means that whatever a person needs to do: complete a report, record audio or video, send screen shots, take photos, etc., it can be done from a mobile device.

It is quite accurate to assume that mobile technology is taking over our desktop. While people will likely continue to use their desktops in the coming years, smartphones will undoubtedly be used more often in many cases. Despite the fact that desktop computers might continue to be more practical in some ways, people continue to prefer smartphones over desktop on many occasions. Not only can a smartphone be used any place, at any time, but with the increasing amount of useful features, smartphones can make most business and personal tasks a lot easier.

There may come a time in the future when desktops become totally obsolete, but right now, although mobile technology does appear to be taking over our desktop, it hasn’t quite taken over completely yet. Computer manufacturers are continually trying to create computers that consist of more and more advancements, but even with advancements galore, at the rate that mobile technology is evolving, soon computers won’t have a chance at competing. Computers will likely never become completely obsolete since they are still needed for so many professions, but in the future, the use of smartphones and other mobile technology will far outnumber the use of computers, both laptops and desktops.
