Microsoft surface – A Tablet that set to beat iPad

Microsoft has entered the market of tablet PC with its “Surface” tablet. It boasts itself to be a competent for the apple’s  iPad. Surface  is expected to make its debut along with most awaited Microsoft’s Windows 8, which according to analyst’s is during the month of September 2012.

Through surface Microsoft is eager to prove its stand in the tablet market as well as of its operating system. Surface works on the Windows RT operating system that was designed to have a greater adaptability toward its hardware. It uses low power chips from British chipmaker ARM Holdings PLC and of-course form Intel, for the complete so called Windows experience.

This 9.3mm thick Surface weighs  under 1.5pounds,  is claimed as a perfect piece of entertaining device. The size and weight is similar to that of apple’s iPad which 9.4mm thick and weighs 1.3pounds.


The screen is 10.6inch(when measured diagonally) the size is a compensation for its better picture quality with 16:9 aspect ratio and better for viewing in wide screen format. It comes with a 0.7-millimeter thick kickstand to hold it upright and a 3-millimeter-thick touch keyboard which is foldable and is used to cover the screen. The  screen is covered in the Gorilla Glass 2 and optically bonded, this is first of its kind that Microsoft has designed specifically for surface.

The windows RT powered tablet be released with different storage capacities like 32 or 64GB in contrast with Intel it could be 64 or 120GB. The cost will be similar to apple’s iPad which will be around $499 to $829 depending upon the features.

A slightly thicker version which will be under  14 millimeters thick and under 2 pounds will work on Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 8 Pro operating system and cost as much as an Ultrabook. The pro version comes with stylus there by providing facilities of taking hand written notes.
