What happens if a mobile phone or tablet is damaged and you need to retrieve data from it? Should an employee become disgruntled and delete files, would you know how to get those files back? 3. Being Cheap

Tight budgets often push entrepreneurs into a tight corner, and unfortunately, IT is often one of the first areas to suffer. Many new business owners look to free, cheap, and basic forms of technological solutions to try and cut corners. It may save money initially, however, in the long run it can cost you your business. Using cheap, inefficient, or outdated forms of tech leaves you years behind your competition, not to mention it slows productivity. Rather than looking for the cheapest or free option to save money, it is best to purchase technological solutions based on business function and necessity.

4. Forgetting Training

When you invest money in new software or hardware it is imperative to not only train yourself, but your staff as well. Of all the IT security mistakes startups make, failure to train staff has to be at the top of the list. Most assume that they can wing it or allow a learning curve, but one big mistake could cost you big.  Running your business by trial and error is probably not the best idea. One wrong push of a button, an incorrect entry, or improper use of technology could lead to costly repercussions including but not limited to loss of company data, employee security breaches, lots of downtime, inefficient processes, and more.

Take the time to invest in employee training with new software whether that means allowing them to watch a how-to video, hiring an expert to train the staff, or printing out instructions and having your in-house IT staff train the rest of your employees.
